Charging Your EV

Public Charging Network

The City owns and operates a public charging network of charging stations across the City. A number of private businesses and other organizations also provide charging in the City.

Find an EV charging station using online maps and mobile apps such as PlugShare.

Types of EV Charging Stations

Level 2 charging uses a dedicated 208V or 240V circuit (i.e. same as a clothes dryer) and requires a specialized station. Level 2 chargers can fully recharge a vehicle in 4 to 6 hours and are commonly used in homes, workplaces, and public charging locations.

Level 3 (Direct Current) fast charging uses a 480V circuit and requires a specialized station and utility connection. These fast chargers can recharge a vehicle in approximately 30 minutes and are well-suited for public charging locations close to amenities or transit corridors.

City Charging Station Fees

Fees vary depending on the time of day and the type of charging station used. Revenue from the charging stations helps increase turnover at our stations, cover operating and regular maintenance costs for the stations, and help fund replacement of older chargers.

Fees apply at all City electric vehicle charging stations and are calculated by total minutes used.

  • Level 3 (Direct Current) fast charging stations: $16 per hour ($0.27 per minute). Fees apply 24 hours per day. Stations are located at:
    • City Hall
    • Brooksbank Avenue
  • Level 2 stations: $2 per hour, or $1 per hour at load-sharing (limited power) or stations that are subject to pay parking fees. Fees apply 6am - 10pm daily. Stations are located at:
    • City Hall
    • Library parkade* (available during parkade hours only)
    • Kinsmen/Mahon (no overnight parking)
    • West Grand Boulevard*
    • Lawn Bowling Club
    • City Operations Centre (unavailable during operational hours on weekdays 6am-5pm)

*Reduced $1 per hour rate applies.

We've selected rates that are as low as possible to encourage the continued use of electric vehicles, while allowing us to improve access to our network.
