Summer Fun in the City

Summer is here and there are many free and fun events happening throughout the season. From markets to movie nights, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Plan ahead by checking out the events and information below, and bookmark our Community Events Calendar to stay updated.


Pride Season

Pride Season refers to the wide range of Pride events that take place over the summer (June to September) when 2SLGBTQAI+ communities and allies come together to spotlight the resilience, celebrate the talent, and recognize the contributions of 2SLGBTQAI+ communities. This year, Pride Week takes place from July 26 – August 4 and you can join in celebrating at the Pride at the Pier event at The Shipyards, a collaboration from the North Shore Pride Alliance and The Shipyards Night Market on August 2.

The Shipyards

The Shipyards is the place to be this summer! Come cool down at the Splash Park, open daily from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. until September. Outdoor Movie Nights

Grab your blanket or lawn chair, and cozy up to watch the featured films in the open, fresh air. Movies start at sundown, so be sure to arrive early and get a good spot! For more info on movie nights in Civic Plaza, at The Shipyards, and in Ray Perrault Park, check out the cnv.org/OutdoorMovieNights. We're kicking things off on July 12th with Wonka in Civic Plaza! 


Other Fun Events

  • Canada Day at The Shipyards with Rotary Club of Lions Gate | Monday, July 1, 11:30 – 4:30 p.m. | The event will feature live music, performances and other fun activities for all ages. Be sure to plan extra time for your activities, as parking may be limited and there may be traffic or transit delays.
  • Hot Summer Nights with Local FirefightersEach summer the Fire Department sets up at various local parks with a ladder truck and an engine to spray water for the kids to play in. Come meet the firefighters, ask questions, get info on fire safety, and tour the trucks!
  • City Park Stewards EventsJoin one of public stewardship and restoration activities happening throughout the City, including invasive removal events, native tree and shrub planting events, and educational park workshops.
  • Shipyard Pals with MONOVAExperience stories of diverse shipyard workers at the Burrard Drydock during WW2 – their life-altering experiences brought to life by costumed Actor-Interpreters. Stories, songs and learning rolled into one!
  • Deckchair Cinema at The Polygon Gallery | Enjoy classic films under the stars on Cates Deck in front of The Polygon Gallery. Now in its third year, Deckchair Cinema treats audiences to a summer of al fresco film screenings.
