We’re building a new childcare centre and fieldhouse in Mahon Park.
This facility will include a new childcare centre, public washrooms, and bookable changerooms, ready for use in early 2025.
Childcare Centre
The new childcare centre will support 37 infants, toddlers and preschoolers and will be operated by the YMCA once open. This initiative is part of the City’s Child Care Action Plan that aims to create 1,000+ new licensed child care spaces in the community by 2031.
Fieldhouse
The new fieldhouse will include six individual public washrooms, including two that are universally accessible, and two bookable team changerooms, each with three showers and a toilet.
The outdoor area around the south section of the fieldhouse will include an open, covered space for park programming and will provide easy access to the Fen Burdett track and field, playground, and splash park.
This fieldhouse will replace the existing washroom facility that has reached the end of its lifespan. This building is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure upgrades that enhance livability.
Council Approval
Approved by Council in 2021, this initiative is being funded by the City’s capital budget, reserves, and a grant through the Province’s ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund.
