Celebrate The Shipyards Fifth Anniversary Bash on Saturday July 20th

July 4, 2024
On July 20th, City of North Vancouver is celebrating the fifth anniversary of one of the region’s most beloved public spaces with a day of free concerts and family friendly activities including sets by headliners and Canadian folk rock darlings, Bahamas and BC local favourites, Hotel Mira.

On July 19, 2019, the final phase of The Shipyards development was marked with an opening celebration by Mayor Linda Buchanan and a ceremonial turning on of the splash park. Five years on, The Shipyards has become an iconic regional destination for locals and visitors alike winning planning awards for its transformation of North Vancouver’s historic shipbuilding waterfront and seeing year-over-year growth in attendance for festivals, concerts, markets and the beloved Skate Plaza and Splash Park.

“The Shipyards is known and loved by people across the region,” said City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan. “Our waterfront has long had a significant role in our community’s identity and economy. Today it stands as an excellent example of what we can achieve through collaboration and ambition. Over the past 5 years this award-winning public space has brought people together though music, cultural festivals, ice skating, public art, food, and so much more.”

This still young destination now attracts half a million visitors a year with hundreds of seasonal events and activations from skating to outdoor movies. The 5th anniversary party is chance to celebrate this milestone with the public, our partners and tenants who together, have created one the best public spaces in the country to gather, play, shop, eat and mingle.

“We are incredibly proud of the success The Shipyards has achieved, both in creating a strong economic environment and in fostering a vibrant people-oriented place,” added Mayor Buchanan. “We are inviting residents and visitors to join us in saying ‘Happy Birthday’ to The Shipyards with a fun-filled 5th anniversary party. Live music, children and youth activities, food trucks, an adult beverage lounge, and more will be ready to welcome you. See you there!”
