The building onsite, known as Hamersley House, is a Designated Municipal Heritage Site.
A child care facility is proposed for up to 77 children. The child care would be located within the heritage building, and the existing accessory building would be converted to office and storage space as part of the child care use.
Outdoor play space would be located at the front of the site towards East 2nd Street. The existing driveway is narrow, given the heritage of the property as an estate. Parking spaces, maneuvering aisle, and the driveway would be widened.
The application is for a change of use, and no additional floor area is proposed. This application requires a change of OCP Designation to Mixed-Use Level 1, for the portion of the site currently designated Residential Level 5. A portion of the site, which is used for the driveway and parking, is designated Parks, Recreation and Open Space, and will remain this designation.
