For Residential Buildings:
Part 9 projects with complete Building Permit applications accepted by October 31, 2023 may use the energy documents below:
- Step 3, where all mechanical systems in the building are able to be classified as a low carbon energy system.
- Step 5, where the mechanical systems in the building are not able to be classified as a low carbon energy system.
Prior to the most recent updates. the Construction Regulation Bylaw defined Low Carbon Energy Systems as all mechanical systems in a building that provide thermal conditioning and domestic hot water heating such that the modeled Greenhouse Gas Intensity (GHGI) for the floor area of conditioned space of the Building is no more than 3 kg CO2e/m2/year.
Building Permit Applications must include:
- A completed Design Verification Report
- A completed House Performance Report (Pre-Construction)
- Energy Model (example: HOT2000 detailed report)
- EnerGuide Homeowner Information Sheet (if applicable)
Prior to or at Insulation and Vapour Barrier Inspection:
- A completed Pre-Drywall Airtightness Test for Homes (PATH) Form must be provided to the Building Inspector
Prior to Final Inspection:
- A completed House Performance Report (As-Built) and must be provided to the Building Inspector
For non-Residential Buildings:
Part 9 non-residential buildings must show compliance with Section 9.36 of the BCBC. Building Permit applications accepted by October 31, 2023 may use the energy documents below:
