The City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver are pleased to announce the appointment of Superintendent William Yee as the new Officer-In-Charge for the North Vancouver RCMP following a nation-wide search.
“I am excited to work with the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, Indigenous communities, businesses and partner agencies on collaborative strategies that will keep our communities safe and increase the trust and confidence with the people we serve,” says Superintendent William Yee.
A 25-year member of the RCMP, Superintendent Yee brings a broad range of policing experience and career-long commitment to keeping communities safe to his new role in North Vancouver.
“Superintendent Yee is an accomplished leader with a real depth of experience in law enforcement and a strong commitment to community service,” says District Mayor Mike Little. “He is a great fit for this role. On behalf of Council, residents and business owners, I want to welcome Superintendent Yee to our community.”
“Public safety has long been the City’s top priority,” says City Mayor Linda Buchanan. “Our community has been well-served by former Superintendent Ghalib Bhayani and I thank him for his dedication. On behalf of Council, I am pleased to welcome Superintendent William Yee as our new Officer-in-Charge. I look forward to working together to advance a safe, healthy, and inclusive community for all people.”
Superintendent Yee joined the RCMP in 1996. He was first posted at the Kelowna Detachment, where he served in frontline policing, property crimes and the Southeast District Federal Drug section. In 2006, Superintendent Yee joined the Lower Mainland District. He served in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) for 10 years, Combined Forces Enforcement Unit British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) and the Office of Investigative Standards.
In 2019, he was commissioned to the rank of Inspector and served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Office Investigative Standards and Practices and the Legal Application Support Team for E Division. Superintendent Yee is an Accredited Team Commander and Chair of the Accredited Team Commander Program for the BC RCMP and municipal partner agencies in BC.
Superintendent Yee, who holds a Bachelor of Education Degree, is the recipient of numerous medals and awards for outstanding service, including the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), BC Police Honours Medal for Meritorious Service (2017, 2019) and Commanding Officer Commendation (2016, 2019).
Superintendent Yee begins his new role as North Vancouver RCMP OIC in September. He is replacing OIC Ghalib Bhayani, who was recently promoted to Chief Superintendent for the RCMP's Lower Mainland District.
