Construction Alert: East 29th Street Safety Improvements

Construction along East 29th Street between Lonsdale and Regent Avenue is scheduled to begin on July 22, 2024, and is expected to take 3 weeks. Work includes paving, line painting and placement of new signs. Construction hours are Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Please expect delays and allow extra time to reach your destination. Please note that this schedule is weather and traffic condition dependent and may be subject to change.

Traffic impacts

Detours

During construction hours, there will be partial closures of East 29th Street with detour routes via Tempe Crescent, St Georges Avenue, and East 27th Street, depending on the location of the active work zone. Please follow the direction of traffic control personnel and signage for detour routes on site. 

Access from side streets onto East 29th will be temporarily restricted during working hours. After 5 p.m., traffic operations on East 29th Street will return to normal. 

Westbound bus stops will be maintained on East 29th Street. Eastbound bus stops between Lonsdale and Princess Avenue will be relocated to East 27th Street and Tempe Crescent from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. Detour information will be posted at affected bus stops.


Lonsdale and 29th intersection work

When working in the Lonsdale and 29th Street intersection, northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained, however access to the intersection will be restricted for eastbound and westbound traffic, including buses. Detours will be in place for all eastbound and westbound traffic.  

Parking restrictions will be in place on portions of East 29th Street, East 27th Street, St Georges Avenue, and Tempe Crescent to accommodate the work zone and detours.
