Increased Traffic and Crowds Anticipated in Lower Lonsdale on September 21, 2024

On September 21, the Shipyards Festival returns to Lower Lonsdale from 12 p.m. – 10 p.m. 

Hosted by Lower Lonsdale Business Improvement Area (LLBIA), the free event features live music on multiple stages as well as activations and vendors located at Shipbuilders’ Square, Shipyard Commons, Burrard Dry Dock and the 100 Block of East 1st Street.

 

Road Closures and Parking Impacts

On September 21:

  • From 5 a.m. to 12 a.m., the 100 block of East 1st Street (between Lonsdale ave and St Georges ave) will have parking restrictions in place and will be closed to vehicle traffic.
  • From 5 a.m. to 12 a.m., the Electric Vehicle chargers located at 140 East 1st Street will not be available for use.
  • From 5 a.m. to 12 a.m., loading bays on Victory Ship Way and Wallace Mews will have parking restrictions (event parking only).

 

Expect Traffic Impacts and Crowds

The event is expected to draw a large amount of visitors to the Lower Lonsdale and Shipyards area:

  • Expect parking in the area to be limited.
  • Expect traffic and potential transit delays. Please refer to service updates from TransLink at translink.ca/alerts.
  • Plan extra time for your activities.
  • Be patient with staff and other visitors – let’s keep The Shipyards a fun space!

 

How to Get to The Shipyards

Visitors are encouraged to walk, take transit or bike to The Shipyards. The area is pedestrian-friendly with connecting trails and safe spaces to walk with friends and family. Bike parking is located throughout the area and a free bike valet will be available on-site during the event. Access is easy by transit, with the SeaBus arriving right at The Shipyards and bus connections nearby.
