City Grants and Awards to Support Sustainable and Healthy Communities

Applications are now open for a variety of  City of North Vancouver grants and awards that aim at building a more sustainable and healthy City. 


Grants for Green Ideas

The Living City Grant supports environmental sustainability initiatives that align with the City’s commitment to climate action and environmental stewardship. The Grant provides funding to non-profit and community groups for community-based environmental sustainability initiatives, with average grants ranging from $1,500 to $3,000.

In previous years, Living City Grants supported environmental initiatives such as the North Shore Food Recovery project by Food Runners Society, garden education programming through the Queensbury PAC, park play days by the Fresh Air Learning Society, and the Pollinator Paradise project by the North Shore Community Garden Society. 

The deadline to apply is January 12, 2025 and applicants are encourage to contact the City to discuss the suitability of their project prior to applying. More details are available cnv.org/LivingCity.

 

Grants for Safe and Active School Travel

The Safe and Active School Travel Program (SASTP) Mini-Grant Program funds up to $1,000 in support of school initiatives that encourage walking, biking, rolling, or taking transit as part of students' daily commute. 

Whether it’s hosting skills training, safety workshops, or creating campaigns to promote active transportation and transit use, SASTP Mini-Grants can help City of North Vancouver schools make a positive impact on student health, safety, and the environment

School representatives interested in applying must submit their proposals by December 20, 2024. More details are available at cnv.org/MiniGrant.

Awards for Environmental Leadership

The Living City Awards celebrate environmental sustainability champions in our community who are leading the way in sustainability and inspiring others to take action. The City is accept nominations for non-profits, local businesses, school groups or individuals who are working towards making the City a greener and healthier place. The deadline for nominations is January 12th, 2025 -- check out cnv.org/LivingCity for more information.

Last year’s award winners included Queen Mary Community Elementary School for integrating sustainable food systems education into its school culture and curriculum and Sam Starr, an active transportation champion and one of the organizers of the inaugural North Shore Cargo Bike Festival.
