The City's Safe and Active School Travel Program (SASTP) Mini-Grants support grassroots programing by schools to help realize SASTP’s vision of making active transportation and transit the preferred way to get to and from school.
The mini-grants can help fund a variety of educational and engagement activities such as hosting events like Walk and Roll to School Days or School Street Days, organizing safety workshops, creating campaigns to promote active transportation and transit use, or street closures for School Streets days.
Applications are welcomed from all schools in the City of North Vancouver, including elementary and secondary. Each school in the City of North Vancouver can apply for mini-grant funding of up to $1000 per school for the 2024/25 school year.
Who Can Apply & Eligible Activities
Projects must be free, accessible, and welcoming to all students. Projects that build the capacity of the school community and sustain an active transportation culture are preferred. Projects must take place outside of HUB Cycling’s Bike to School Week (June 2 – 6, 2025).

- Unique initiatives that meet the vision and goals of SASTP
Application Process
The City will accept applications until Friday, December 20, 2024, for projects to take place from the date of approval until June 14, 2024. Please review the Mini-Grant Guidelines for more details.

Reporting Requirements
Schools that receive a 2024/25 SASTP Mini-Grant are required to complete a short report using the
Reporting Form. The report must be submitted by June 13, 2025. A minimum of 3 photos showing participants must be submitted, along with signed
Photography and Video Release Waiver.
2023/24 Recipients
Three SASTP Mini-Grants were awarded in the 2023/24 school year:
Carson Graham Secondary
- School administration hosted Roll into Spring!, an event that encourages walking, rolling and public transit to school, from April 8–12, 2024. The mini-grant supported on-site bike maintenance and safety education, snacks, and prizes for participants. Students receiveed a stamp card to record their participation. Approximately 450 students participated.
Ridgeway Elementary School
- Ridgeway PAC hosted Ridgeway ROCKS, walks and rolls from May 6–10, encouraging students to walk or ride to school for the week. The mini-grant supported a bike repair station, posters and promotion of the event, and a pizza party for the classes (one primary and one intermediate) with the highest participation. Parent volunteers counted and kept track of student participation. Approximately 200 students participated.
Larson Elementary
- Parent Association of Larson School (PALS) enhanced Bike to School Week from June 3-7. The mini-grant supported prizes and pizza parties for two classes with the highest participation. There were 916 active trips recorded. Class mode share averaged 47-60%, with some as high as 90%.
