Dogs in City Parks

Dogs aren't permitted on playgrounds, picnic areas, playing fields, beaches, fitness circuits, running tracks, golf courses, bowling greens, tennis courts, or in the North Vancouver cemetery. For more information download Parks Regulation Bylaw 6611 or review the map above.

Dogs and the Natural Environment

Protect park habitat and wildlife by keeping dogs out of creeks, streams and ponds, and from from chasing any animals – including birds. Stay on trails to prevent soil erosion and to protect native vegetation.

Dog Licencing

Annual dog licences are mandatory in the City and are a proven, cost-effective method of assisting in returning lost dogs to their owners. Renew or purchase new dog licences online with CityServe or in-person at City Hall. Learn more on our Dog Licences & Renewals page. 

Dog Waste

No one wants to deal with another creature's poop. Visit our Dog Waste Program page to find locations of 'Got Poop' bins and other ways to deal with dog waste. You can also post Poo Fairy signs on your property.

Spaying and Neutering

Spaying and neutering is encouraged to reduce unwanted pet populations. Spaying and neutering prevents unwanted litters, helps protect against health problems, and may reduce behavioral problems associated with the mating instinct.

Dog Violations & Fines

Dog Tax & Regulation Bylaw

To ensure the safety of the public and their pets, the City has a Dog Tax and Regulation Bylaw. Under the bylaw, every owner of an animal that is defined as vicious is encouraged to take proper command of their pet at all times. Failure to do so will result in higher license fees, fines, and/or related costs (e.g. pound fees).
